Lose Weight with Smoothies: Class Review

By: LaToya Pickett

Have you ever wondered what it ‘s like to take a class at NCE? To share more about what to expect, I recently attended the Lose Weight with Smoothies class at the Cohn School.

I was interested in learning more about Smoothies, since I am a journey to becoming healthier.

The wonderful teacher, Connie Turner, started the class with a presentation about her weight lost journey and how smoothies helped her. She started getting interest in smoothies from a visit to Smoothie King. After the visit, Ms. Turner incorporated smoothies into her diet along with exercising and lost 25 pounds.

Besides giving her testimony, Ms. Turner also provided the class with a meal plan she created and the Dr. Oz’s Total 10 Plan, which both includes smoothies.

Ms. Turner also prepared a pumpkin pie smoothie from the Total 10 plan to show the class how quick and easy smoothie preparation can be.

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie recipe:

  • 2 tbsp protein powder (whey or egg white)
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed oil
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup ice

Ms. Turner also made an Almond Butter Greek Yogurt Dip from the Total 10 plan. The dip includes 4 ingredients:

  • 1 1/4- cup Greek yogurt
  • 3 tbsp almond butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

She served the yogurt dip with apples and graham crackers, it was really tasty!

Overall the class was great! It gave more details about smoothies and how to incorporate it into my diet. There were even more smoothies to use in the book I won during the class!
